Applicable Animals:

Tiamulin Fumarate is a pleuromutilin antibiotic that exerts its antibacterial effect by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis. It shows potent antibacterial activity against various Gram-positive bacteria, some Gram-negative bacteria, and important Mycoplasma. Its main advantage lies in its excellent efficacy against Mycoplasma infections in pigs and poultry, and it is also effective against spirochetes and certain specific bacterial infections. Applicable Animals in Global Animal Husbandry:
  • Pigs (Piglets, Growing-finishing pigs, Breeding pigs): Primarily used for the treatment and prevention of porcine mycoplasmal pneumonia (enzootic pneumonia) caused by Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae, and porcine spirochetal dysentery (swine dysentery) caused by Brachyspira hyodysenteriae. Additionally, it has good efficacy against ileitis (proliferative enteritis), clostridial diseases, and mixed respiratory and digestive tract infections caused by sensitive bacteria.
  • Poultry (Chickens): Primarily used for the treatment and prevention of Avian Chronic Respiratory Disease (CRD) caused by Mycoplasma gallisepticum, and Infectious Synovitis and respiratory diseases caused by Mycoplasma synoviae. It also has some auxiliary effect on chicken digestive problems (e.g., egg drop, soft feces) caused by Brachyspira hyodysenteriae.

Usage and Dosage:

The usage and dosage of Tiamulin Fumarate vary depending on the dosage form, animal species, and treatment objective. Strict adherence to veterinary guidance or product instructions is essential. Premix Powder/Water Soluble Powder/Liquid Solution (General Reference):
  • Pigs (Mixed with feed or drinking water):
    • For treatment of Porcine Mycoplasmal Pneumonia:
      • Mixed feed: Add 25-40 grams of active ingredient (Tiamulin Fumarate) per ton of feed, for 5-7 consecutive days.
      • Drinking water: Add 6-10 mg of active ingredient per liter of drinking water, for 3-5 consecutive days.
    • For treatment of Porcine Spirochetal Dysentery:
      • Mixed feed: Add 40-80 grams of active ingredient per ton of feed, for 7-14 consecutive days.
      • Drinking water: Add 6.25-12.5 mg of active ingredient per liter of drinking water, for 3-5 consecutive days.
    • Example for 45% Premix Powder:
      • Porcine Mycoplasmal Pneumonia: Add 55-89 grams of this product per ton of feed.
      • Porcine Spirochetal Dysentery: Add 89-178 grams of this product per ton of feed.
  • Poultry (Drinking water administration):
    • For treatment of Avian Chronic Respiratory Disease or Infectious Synovitis: Add 12.5-25 mg of active ingredient per liter of drinking water, for 3-5 consecutive days.
    • Example for 10% Liquid Solution: Add 0.125-0.25 ml of this product per liter of drinking water.
Dosage by Growth Stage:
  • Piglets/Nursery Pigs: Used for the prevention and treatment of Mycoplasmal pneumonia and spirochetal dysentery in early-weaned piglets, especially during susceptible periods after weaning stress.
  • Growing-finishing Pigs: Used to control chronic Mycoplasmal pneumonia and swine dysentery, reducing culling rates and improving production performance.
  • Breeding Pigs: Used for Mycoplasma elimination and maintenance of herd health, reducing vertical transmission.
  • Chicks/Broilers/Laying Hens: Used to control Avian Chronic Respiratory Disease and Infectious Synovitis, especially during high-risk periods of infection or when clinical symptoms appear.

Applicable Diseases and Symptoms:

Tiamulin Fumarate is primarily used for the treatment of diseases caused by sensitive bacteria and Mycoplasma:
  • Pigs:
    • Respiratory System Diseases: Porcine Mycoplasmal Pneumonia (also known as enzootic pneumonia, caused by Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae).
    • Digestive System Diseases: Porcine Spirochetal Dysentery (caused by Brachyspira hyodysenteriae), Porcine Proliferative Enteropathy (ileitis), Clostridial diseases.
  • Poultry (Chickens):
    • Respiratory System Diseases: Avian Chronic Respiratory Disease (CRD, caused by Mycoplasma gallisepticum), Infectious Synovitis (caused by Mycoplasma synoviae).

Precautions:

  • Drug Interactions (Incompatibilities):
    • Strictly prohibited from concurrent use with ionophore anticoccidials such as Monensin, Salinomycin, Methylsalinomycin, as this will lead to severe poisoning, potentially fatal. These drugs should be avoided for 7 days before and after Tiamulin Fumarate administration.
    • Should not be used concurrently with other macrolide antibiotics such as Tilmicosin, Erythromycin, etc., due to potential antagonism or cross-resistance.
  • Withdrawal Period:
    • Pigs: 7 days (for meat)
    • Chickens: 3 days (for meat)
    • Not for use in laying hens during egg production, to avoid affecting egg quality.
  • Solubility: Water soluble powders and liquid solutions must be fully dissolved in drinking water to ensure uniform mixing.
  • Stability: Prepared medicated solutions should be used as soon as possible, avoiding prolonged exposure to air or light.
  • Storage: Store in a cool, dark, and tightly sealed place.

Contraindications:

  • Contraindicated in animals with a known hypersensitivity to Tiamulin Fumarate or other pleuromutilin antibiotics.
  • Strictly prohibited from concurrent use with ionophore anticoccidials (e.g., Monensin, Salinomycin, Methylsalinomycin).
  • Not for use in laying hens during egg production.
  • Use with caution in animals with severe renal impairment.

Post-Administration Care:

  • Observe Efficacy: Closely monitor the improvement of clinical symptoms in animals (e.g., rapid breathing, coughing, diarrhea) to assess the treatment effect.
  • Hygiene Management: During and after treatment, enhance cleaning and disinfection of the rearing environment to reduce pathogen transmission and prevent secondary infections.
  • Biosecurity: For Mycoplasma and Brachyspira infections, in addition to drug treatment, strict biosecurity measures such as introduction quarantine, all-in/all-out systems, and regular disinfection are necessary to achieve better eradication and control effects.
  • Enforce Withdrawal Period: Ensure that animal products (meat, eggs) meet national drug residue standards before market release.
  • Provide Nutritional Support: Sick animals may have reduced appetite; provide easily digestible, nutritionally balanced feed and ample drinking water to promote recovery.
